Inango Plug paves the OVS way for MXL
15 June, 2021
Inango recently announced the signing of an agreement of strategic collaboration with MaxLinear. I’d like to add a little detail here about what this means.
MXL PROCESSORS WILL BE EQUIPPED WITH THE MOST ADVANCED SUPPORT FOR OVS
OpenVSwitch (OVS) is rapidly becoming a popular addition for home gateways. Whether to support protocols such as OpenSync, to simplify CPE offerings by offloading complex software to the Cloud, or to activate rich OVS functionality like link aggregation, extensive statistics or varied tunneling options, OVS is fast becoming a mandate for gateway software. Inango’s Plug offers the most advanced level of support for OVS in gateways, uniquely providing support for transparent use of existing bridges and OVS simultaneously and intelligent integration with underlying hardware acceleration engines. This not only reduces the complexity in using OVS in existing gateways, it means that full OVS functionality may be enabled from the outset
OUR PLUG WILL BE PART OF THE STANDARD MXL SOFTWARE
Starting with the popular Puma7 DOCSIS processors, the Inango Plug (the client module required by our Service Launcher) will soon be part of the standard MXL SDK’s. This means that any Service Provider deploying DOCSIS gateways based on the Puma7 (and there are many millions of them) will be able to instantly activate any end-user service deployed on the Launcher. No software modifications to the gateways are necessary, no long QA cycles and field upgrades – just flick a switch and any of the services will be available to the entire subscriber base. This removes a major obstacle for new customers – the gateway software itself is not modified and otherwise thorny issues of support and upgrade responsibilities are clearly defined. Other MXL platforms can be supported too – like the popular Puma6 or others.
MAXLINEAR WILL ACTIVELY PROMOTE INANGO SOFTWARE
As part of our agreement, MaxLinear will promote and sell licenses to Inango software to their customers, both in the cable and telco industries. From Inango’s perspective this means far greater marketing reach and credibility in this market, particularly with the tier-1 Service Providers that form much of MaxLinear’s customer base.
We always get asked so I’ll say explicitly: the deal is not exclusive. For any software product to be successful it must be able to run on all gateways in a provider network. Our software is no exception. Not only is the agreement with MXL non-exclusive, the software is specifically designed for portability to other popular platform.
